Last day of travel, beginning with a hazy sunrise in Painted Post, NY.
Much of the past week was predictable: planned stops in Cooperstown,Vacation Village, Pittsfield, Lenox and Stockbridge; delightful walks with Wizzy; meeting up with three friends for good times; great music and theater; getting thoroughly lost more than once.
What were the surprises?
- The open road with some good music is fun, thanks to Paul Simon, James Taylor and Carrie Newcomer.
- Three days with old friends allows just enough time for catching up.
- North Adams is a cultural mecca: modern art is fun.
- Getting lost is in my nature, not to be encouraged, but not feared either.
- Blogging keeps the days from running together into a gray mush.
- Blog readers are a comfort and joy.
- Small theaters with warm audiences are wonderful.
- Nehassaiu deGannes (In Intimate Apparel) is a gift to the stage; I have a crush on her.
- I might share some spiritual ground with Emily Dickinson.
- I love people with generous hearts: friends, dramatic characters, kind food servers, volunteer photographers, most dog people, and, of course, dogs themselves. Yes dogs are people of a kind.
- For all this, traveling could be better with a partner. But this is probably not a surprise.
Time to pack up and hit the road for the last time.
Thanks, dear readers, for making the journey fun.
