From: JESUS SAID: “YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD”
In a place hallowed by the devotion of generations we offer these candles to light—candles to accompany your prayers, candles to go on burning when your own prayers may be inexpressible in words, candles lit as a sign of your heart’s concerns or joys moved into light of divine love in the realm of God. Even as you leave your candle will go on burning as a testament to others of your openness to the sacred illuminating the path for others to be drawn to God.
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church lies nearly at the mid-city line of Duval Street, Key West, FL, a street of noise and celebration of whatever you wish. It is not all holy. The prayer at the front left of St. Paul’s reminds us that we are responsible to share light from wherever we receive it to wherever we can spread it, and that our lit candle symbolizes that light.
We try to remember that responsibility even as we celebrate the physical pleasures of Key West.

Celebrating
light in dark places.
Actually every day in Key West was flooded with sunlight. It was rarely too hot and the afternoons were tempered by sea breezes. We may have avoided direct sun, but we relished the cloudless skies and the soothing evening air. Light was a lavish resource every day.
May we share the light we have so generously received.
